Fact about Down syndrome ...

People with Down syndrome are very perceptive and smart! Many times a lack of communication can be thought of as an inability to understand. Really though, there is often little lack of understanding and more of an inability to "spit it out.". What you or I think of as "can't find the right word," or "how do I say..." is thought of as lack of intelligence for people with Down syndrome. The recent use of sign language is beginning to break those barriers down!
