Did we do something wrong...

The text book answer.....
There is nothing that can be done to prevent Down syndrome, and
nothing that can be done to change the odds of having a child with
Down syndrome.  The only link is advancing maternal age, with a
sharp rise in risk at thirty-five to forty years of age. But eighty
percent of all children with Trisomy 21 are born to Moms under
thirty-five years of age. It is estimated that the risk of having a
second child with Down syndrome is about one in 100. This risk
is higher if one parent carries a translocated chromosome.

but still you wonder?
I can say that thankfully I am not in that 80% that are young moms.  I think with age comes maturity and with us having waited a while to have children is a big benefit to us.  This is going to put a stress on our relationship...heck just having kids puts a stress on it.  So with us having taken the time to first know one another I think this will help!

Today has been a wondering kind of day...

  2. Thanks for your honesty!

But guess what...! You didn't do anything wrong....no one little thing.

My wife (a pediatrician) wrote a nice article on called "Did I Cause My Child To Be Born With Down Syndrome?" as part of our new parent guide.

    I think it's worth a read! :)
