Hau`oli Lā Hānau Trinity!

Today is PARTY Day!

Sometime back in the Spring I was visiting my local party story and saw this really cute Hawaiian Hula girl balloon and from that the idea was born to have a hula party for Trinity's first birthday party.

As with Tristan's first birthday party I went all out.  I know it is sill because the kids will never remember, but that first year is so hard that I think a big party is needed! HA HA!  Plus Mommy just likes to have parties and friends around.

We of course had to have a special cake for just the Hula girl which I sat atop a really cool palm tree.  This was to give the little cake a place of honor, but also to keep all the little hands out of it!

Colorful cupcakes for all!  Who doesn't love a yummy cupcake?  I made all the picks to go on top so that they were personalized with her theme and for her.  They turned out SUPER cute, got lots of compliments and all it took was some time and toothpicks!

David came to visit the birthday Girl.  He was so sweet, the minute his mom and dad walked in the door he reached out to me and let me hold him.  He gave me SOOO many kisses too!  I just loved it!

The house was so full we had the backyard opened up with the bounce house so that folks could sit out there.  Thankfully the weather was super nice and this was an option.

Tristan enjoying a coveted sugary drink...mommy only allows these at parties!

For this party I hired a caterer.  In the past my caterer (Aunt Mimi) has been fabulous, but this year she is pregnant with TWINS so the whole standing on her feet for hours to make food was not really an option..:)
I LOVED hiring someone to do all the cooking.  All I had to do was ask for some menu ideas around a Hawaiian theme and she gave me options.  From there she cooked it all, delivered it, set it up etc.  I had to do the clean up, but with a house of over 50 people that was easy!

For lunch we had sweet rub chicken with pineapple chunks and macadamia nuts, calypso rice pilaf, almond green beans and a spring salad with homemade raspberry vinaigrette.  I thought it was YUMMY, but the guests thought it was to DIE FOR!  The great part is because it was preset up everyone thought I had cooked it.  HAAHHA!

The little kids (and their parents) all hung out inside while to rowdy big kids jumped in the bounce house.

For Trinity's party I made her a "hula" outfit.  I took a plain onsie and glued a pretty flower, similar to a hibiscus, to the front with a pretty jewel in the middle.  I then purchased glittery green tulle to make her a "grass" skirt and just tied it to a pretty ribbon and hot glued smaller flowers with jewels to the front.  She looked so cute and so festive!

Austin thought Trinity's dress was FESTIVE too and he wanted a piece of it!

Ut oh...Austin got in trouble by his mommy, but it's ok Kayla!  No harm done here!

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you.......

Happy birthday dear Trinity, happy birthday to you......

YAYAAY!!  Tristan had to help he blow out the candle, but he was GLAD to help!

YUUUMMM Cake!

People always tell us that each child is different, but these cake pictures prove it!  For Tristan's first birthday he would NOT touch the cake.  We had first birthday pics done and had to SMEAR the cake on him just to show he had some.  Not Trinity! She was all about putting her hands in the cake and even trying to get some in her mouth.

Some of her party friends...there were too many people to be able to get everyone in the small space, but we got a lot of them.

Tristan enjoying his cupcake.  Another sugary treat Mommy only allows at parties!

Look Mommy!  She is so pleased with herself.

I wanted to get a picture of her with all of her DS friends, but MAN!  Everyone is under 2 years old and that
is not an easy thing to do....you get one looking at you then the rest are looking somewhere else...you be the judge!

Luke said Forget THIS I am out of here.

So then I tried a different approach....

This is the one picture I could pull from all of them where the majority of them are looking up, not at me mind you, but up.

Grayson decided he had had enough of the party and headed down the hall to our room.

Luke talking away.

Papi and Trinity in the bouncy house.

Noah thinks the bounce house tastes good, Trinity is not too sure on that.

No really Trinity, would I steer you wrong?

Gimme some skin Baby!

Listen guys, the bounce house has germs, you cant lick it.

I told them Mommy.

LOOK Matching tongues...how cute!

HOW many leis can I get around my neck? (notice the black lip?  Within minutes of people arriving for the party Tristan runs head long into his table and busts his mouth...nice!)

Andrea and Trinity talking it out, Trinity is trying to get Andrea's sparkly off her neck!

Aunt Dee Dee!!!!

Today was a long day.  We have had our bath and are ready to pass out in bed.  What a great day we had today with all of our friends.

A few notes:

Trinity's charity that she sponsored for her birthday was the Down Syndrome Clinic at Children's Medical Center.  In lieu of gifts everyone was asked to bring items to be donated to the clinic for the patients that come in.  Clinic run approx 4 hours, you stay in one room and the doctors, nurses etc rotate in to see you.  It makes for a very long visit and sometimes you can be caught off guard with out items to entertain.  We asked everyone to bring small toys, books etc for children birth to about 10 years old.  As usual our friends came through and we were able to donate over 100+ items to the clinic.  Pictures to come when we deliver our donations!

"Happy Birthday" translates to "Hau`oli Lā Hānau"(pronounced how-oh-lay la ha-now) in Hawaiian. "Hau`oli" means "Happy, glad, gay, joyful," "Lā" means "Day, date" (as well as "sun, sunny"), and "Hānau" means "To give birth; to lay (an egg); born."

Today was another HAPPY BIRTHDAY kind of day...

  1. Trinity is a beautiful girl and your blog has some awesome pictures and stories! I particularly love the picture of Trinity and all of her friends laying in a circle at her birthday party. Thank you for sharing! (I found a link to your page through the web that is facebook.) My daughter Meredith has Down syndrome as well--it looks like she is about 6 months or so older than Trinity--an April 2010 baby.
