Mommy and Me classes....

Trinity and I are back again for another semester of Mommy and Me classes sponsored by the Down Syndrome Guild.

Contrary to her "non-smiling" face (I think she was trying to figure out what in the heck mommy was doing!) she actually loves the classes...and so do I!

It gives us both a chance to interact with people just like us.  We always meet new people each semester and that brings on a whole new slew of questions and answers.  My first semester I was not sure about attending.  Trinity was not "old enough" to really be in the class, but the Guild was amazing at letting us attend.  It was a HUGE life line for me.  I was still on Maternity leave at the time so this not only gave me a  connection to the outside world, but a connection to this thing called Down Syndrome that we had just learned about.  In the 1st semester there were Mommies that had been to the classes before and I was able to ask any questions I wanted.  I was able to stare at the kids all I wanted and not feel "ashamed" or like I was doing something bad.  It was liberating!

This semester I am a "veteran" Mommy and we are making so many new friends.  I have been able to answer questions and even help one mommy through the scares of heart surgery.

Miss Cynthia is the teacher and she is amazing with the kids and Mommies.  She knows everyone by name and really takes the time to hear every one's stories and follow up.  We LOVE her!  The "class" is 1.5 hours long.  The first 45 minutes is really just free time for the kids to play together and the Mommy's to talk.  The next 15 minutes is Story time and the last 30 minutes is music time. Miss Cynthia brings out all kinds of instruments, toys, fabrics etc, depending on the song, to engage the kids.

Here we are in music class.

Veteran Mommy Elena and her son Luke (with the cymbal) and new comer David (tambourine)

New Mommy Shannon with Cate and that is Mr Austin up front!

New Mommy Kristen with son David...Veteran Mommy Abbie with son Noah (check out Noahs Website when you get a minute...AMAZING!)

BIG thanks to Miss Kayla, whose son is Austin (Check out Loving My Austin ) because with out her transporting Trinity there I would not be able to attend!!

Today was a Mommy and Me kind of day...
